Entry 021 Praying to become the Righteousness of God
When we come to Jesus, accepting His gift of salvation, believing that He died and rose again to redeem us, and confessing our sins for Him to cleanse and forgive us, we become the righteousness of God. The Lord decides to cast all of our sins into the sea of forgetfulness, and covers us with the blood of Jesus. True repentance is changing our minds and properly believing in God’s word, therefore, changing our behavior. It involves rejecting our will, plan, and worldview, and humbly accepting the perfect will of God for our lives. Self righteousness is relying on our own thoughts, abilities, ideas, and good works to be justified before God. Not realizing that our righteousness is as a filthy rag to a holy God, we can never be justified by our own good deeds. Becoming the righteousness of God means that we are justified by grace through faith, not works of the flesh. It means that we confess what God says about us, believing that our behavior, lifestyle and fruit will eventually display it. Broken, weary, battered, and flawed, we can come boldly before a holy God that covers our sins with the blood of Jesus. We don’t have to hide or try to cover our faults; we are naked before a God that knows our thoughts afar off. Just as we can never earn God’s love, favor and grace, God’s righteousness is also a gift. We don’t pray, praise, serve or give in order to get God to accept us. We do these things because God has already accepted, justified, and positioned in right standing with the Father due to the finished works of Jesus Christ. God will never love us any more than He already does, He will never answer prayers that He already accomplished, and He will never do what He has empowered us to do. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice for all of our sins, past, present and future. And He was appointed only once to die to justify us to the Father as the redeemed sons and daughters of God. So praying to become the righteousness of God is asking God for the revelation and the faith to accept His gift of love, mercy, grace and favor as we are made righteous by the blood of the Lamb.
