Praying in the Spirit Using the Word of God for Week #34

Entry#34 Praying to have a Positive Expectation of Good

Those of us who see the glass as half empty may have a harder time at having good expectations. We may have been hurt and disillusioned so much from life and people, that it is easier to have a negative outlook. We don’t want to be constantly disappointed, so we lower our expectations. Conversely, for the most part, when we set a standard high for people, the majority of them will meet it. People often do what we expect them to. But there are times when we are taken aback by peoples’ behaviors, actions, or responses. Especially when we have history with the person, it can be difficult to accept a radical change in them. The only constant in life is change. We may never know when a person will change how they see us, feel about us, or relate to us. We may never even comprehend or be able to prevent what brought on the attitudinal change in the first place. Most of the time it had nothing to do with us personally; it was the individual’s personal issue. The best we can do is  to try to communicate the situation effectively with the hope of gaining a understanding. But as believers, God expects us to have a positive expectation of His goodness daily.  We can expect good out of people, but because of our sin nature, people will always on some level disappoint and disillusion us. It is better to trust in God then to put our confidence in man. We can trust that God will help people do the right things by us, but they also have free will. God will only work on the desires of a pure heart. Therefore since God can never let us down, we should have a positive expectation that He will bring good to us every day. We can dismiss the Devil who tries to convince us that God is not for us, or that He do not have a good plan for us. We can crush him with the word of God that states that God knows the good plans He has for us that will bring us to a successful end. For all things work together for the good of them who love the Lord and to those who are the called according to God’s purpose and plan. Therefore we can expect God’s goodness, love, favor, protection, salvation, and provision every day.
