Tri-State Local Gospel Artist Spotlight #26
Tracy Shy began singing at age 2 ½ at her grandfather’s church, and formed her own group at age 13, called Tracy and the Melodies. The group, consisting of 3 back-up singers, traveled every weekend across the East Coast singing the songs Tracy wrote and arranged, and appearing on radio and television. In 1984, she joined Rev Ernest Davis Jr.’s Wilmington Chester Mass Choir where she was lead singer and recorded on several albums.
Shy’s first tour outside the United States was a background singer for Tramaine Hawkins in 1989. She has received numerous awards and citations, and is an honorary member of the Tri State Gospel Music Association. Tracy Shy served as a member of the Johnny Thompson Singers, performed in a variety of stage plays, and has shared the stage with many great gospel artists from James Cleveland to Kirk Franklin.
